Withdrawal of the Staff VAT concession

Did you know that the Government has decided to dramatically increase the costs to businesses of hiring temporary staff? This means that thousands of temporary staff - temporary nurses, healthcare workers, teachers and charity workers will risk losing their jobs.

In April 2009 the Government will remove the VAT concession on temporary staff that has been in existence for some ten years. With the UK already facing challenging economic times and rising unemployment, this will have a crippling effect on the UK’s most vulnerable sectors who cannot claim back their VAT.

The removal of the VAT concession poses a serious threat to all those who are working on a temporary basis. It will cost businesses millions of pounds that they cannot afford in these challenging economic times. Worse, thousands of those working in the most worthy professions could lose their jobs.

At the Forum for Professional Recruiters we have launched a campaign and are determined to persuade the Government to delay the removal of this concession.  But we cannot do it alone – with thousands of your staff at risk of losing their jobs it is critical that you get involved.  What can you do?

- Write to your MP to challenge the removal of the VAT concession

- Convey the message to your members for them to do the same

- Join us to lobby MPs

- Provide quotes of support for our website

Help delay the withdrawal of VAT concession on temporary staff. Join our campaign! Our nurses, doctors, charity workers, teachers, patients and children need you!

Yours sincerely,

Tara Ricks,

Chair, Forum of Professional Recruiters
